“Art in Motion” is a wholly unique series of work by artist MJ Dowling that celebrates the ability of art to transform. Each composition is truly interactive and evolves through engagement with the viewer.

These distinctive artworks are comprised of multiple canvases, each mounted independently upon a hidden axis, allowing them to gracefully rotate or spin. The collective harmony of these rotating canvases creates a dynamic and ever-changing art in motion.
Constantly redefining itself as the canvases spin, each piece reveals new aspects of the layered and interconnected images. The rotation of the canvases empowers the observer to play an active role in the creation of the art, offering an opportunity to engage with the work in a deeply personal and transformative way. It's also just a lot of fun.

By interacting with an artwork, each viewer becomes a co-creator, contributing their unique vantage point and interpretations, allowing for a limitless array of possibilities and a shared artistic experience that is constantly in flux.

The Color of Cocktails, 43 x 51 x 6 in., Mixed Media
Blooming Revolution, 36 x 60 x 4 in., Mixed Media
Spin & Soar, 38 x 57 x 4 in., Mixed Media
Aviation themed artwork incorporating the Spitfire aircraft flown by British and American forces in WW II. The installation includes 5 separate aircraft which can be rotated 360 degrees to form a "missing man" formation. A large directional gyro with a rotating plane indicator anchors the center of the artwork. Circular roundels used on US aircraft also cover two canvases.
Jam Band, 36 x 54 x 6 in., Mixed Media
This is a music themed artwork which is comprised of multiple instruments to form a "Jam Band". The large acoustic guitar can be paired with any of three alternating head stocks to vary the imagery. A round piano displays the words "Face The Music" which appear or disappear depending on the position of the piano. Finally, three canvases form a drum kit which also incorporates a real Paiste cymbal and two Zildjian drumsticks. Throughout the installation images continually jump between canvases creating numerous display options.
Aquatic Bliss, 36 x 52 x 4 in., Mixed Media
Nautical themed artwork which incorporates an aerial map of a coastal town, imagery of a woman lazily floating in a pool, swimmers racing through the water, and a "swim up cocktail bar" which is surrounded by brightly colored umbrellas. Four of the canvases have images of fish which seamlessly "jump" and interconnect the various canvases.
